2027: Lagos APC dismisses ADC coalition, says Nigerians won’t be deceived

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised opposition figures aligning under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), declaring that Nigeria has moved beyond what it described as the “dark, wasteful, and inglorious era” of past leadership failures.

In a statement on Monday by the party’s spokesman, Hon. Seye Oladejo, the Lagos APC said Nigerians should not be deceived by what it called the re-emergence of familiar political actors seeking to present themselves as agents of reform ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to the party, many of the individuals now championing the opposition coalition are long-time beneficiaries of power who previously occupied top public offices, including governors, ministers, senators, vice presidents and party leaders.

The APC argued that such figures had ample opportunities to shape the country positively but failed to deliver meaningful progress when they held authority.

“It is the height of political hypocrisy for those who helped create yesterday’s failures to now present themselves as the cure for the very disease they incubated,” the statement said.

The ruling party in Lagos further described the ADC coalition as a gathering of “displaced power brokers and frustrated office seekers” allegedly driven more by personal ambition than national interest.

It also questioned the democratic credentials of the opposition bloc, claiming that internal wrangling, factionalism and opportunistic defections had weakened its moral authority to campaign on issues of governance and accountability.

The APC maintained that Nigeria had outgrown what it termed old politics characterised by entitlement, elite rotation and recycled leadership.

Defending the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the party said the country was currently undergoing bold and necessary reforms aimed at addressing longstanding structural challenges.

While acknowledging that some of the policies may be difficult, the APC insisted they were courageous and future-oriented, unlike previous administrations that allegedly left behind excuses and unfulfilled promises.

The party said the 2027 elections would serve as a defining moment for Nigerians to distinguish between genuine leadership and what it called recycled ambition.

It added that the electorate would not hand power to individuals whose past records, according to the party, reflected wasted opportunities and failed legacies.

“The years of the locusts are gone forever, and by the grace of the Nigerian electorate, they shall remain buried in the graveyard of failed political experiments,” the statement added.
