38-year-old man arraigned for possession of human flesh, bones

Oyo State Police Command, yesterday, arraigned a 38-year-old Jamiu Yekinni before An Iyaganku Magistrate’s court sitting in Ibadan, for alleged unlawful possession of human flesh and dried bones in Oyo State.

Yekinni was arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and unlawful possession of human flesh and bones.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. The prosecuting counsel, Gbemisola Adedeji, told the court that the defendant allegedly conspired with another person to commit misconduct with regards to a corpse.
She said on June 23, at about 10:00 a.m., along Ibadan/Lagos Expressway, Guru Maharaji area, Ibadan, the defendant was accosted and allegedly found in his possession was human flesh and dried human bones.
Adedeji added Yekinni was arrested by Federal Highway patrol officers on his way to Ogun State, where he allegedly wanted to use the flesh and dried bones for a money ritual.
She said that the offence contravened Section 242 (1) (b) and 517 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2,000.
Magistrate O. A. Akande, in her ruling, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the matter to August 5, for hearing.
