No fewer than 424 Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) across the country have received free artificial limbs from the Centre for Advocacy for Persons with Disabilities (CAPWD).
Though the distribution held in Benue, elated beneficiaries from Taraba told The Guardian that the gesture would go a long way in easing their movement.
National President of the Centre, Omotunde Thompson, said the donation of the free limbs to beneficiaries was to easily integrate the PWDs into the society to fend for themselves, instead of depending on others or begging.
She noted that statistics showed that over one billion people, approximately 15 per cent of the world’s population, live with some form of disability, and Nigeria has 30 million PWDs.
