63rd Independence: Buni tasks citizens on nation building
Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe has charged citizens to play their parts in building a united, strong and prosperous Nigeria.
Buni disclosed this in his 63rd Independence anniversary message signed by his Director General Press and Media Affairs, Alhaji Mamman Mohammed in Damaturu.
He congratulated Nigerians for the independence and commended them for their resilience in ensuring a united country in spite of the numerous challenges.
“Every nation has its peculiar challenges, the commitment of Nigerians to a united and progressive Nigeria has been strong and unshakeable,” he said.
The governor called on the citizens to exhibit tolerance, accommodation and sacrifice, urging, ” we should exploit our diversity to serve as a strength to our unity.”
Buni said that Nigeria’s 24 years of democratic governance had strengthened democracy and provided development to the people.
”We all have a duty and responsibility to make selfless contributions to strengthen the institution for a strong democracy that promotes participation in governance,” he said.
The governor called on the citizens to support the Federal and state governments to successfully execute their policies and programmes to improve the lives of the people.
Buni assured that his administration would continue to build infrastructure to accelerate its reconstruction, rehabilitation and recovery programmes.
“Our administration would support our people to develop a strong and reliable irrigation programme to guarantee food sufficiency and security in the state.
“Government would also enhance empowerment programmes to provide employment opportunities to our people,” he assured.
