Academic activities at the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State are set to grind to a halt after members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), AAUA Chapter, embarked on an indefinite withdrawal of services to protest the non-payment of their May and June 2026 salaries.
The union announced that the action would take effect from 11:59 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 2026, following a resolution reached at its congress held on the same day.
In a notice signed by the Chairperson of ASUU-AAUA, Comrade Bolu Oshodi, the union said the congress reaffirmed earlier resolutions taken on April 28 and June 18, 2026, insisting that members would no longer continue teaching without receiving their salaries.
According to the notice: “The ASUU-AAUA Congress of July 10, 2026, reaffirmed its earlier resolution of Tuesday, April 28, and Thursday, June 18, 2026 respectively, to embark on a withdrawal services to demand the payment of May and June 2026 salaries.”
The union further declared: “The withdrawal of services is total, comprehensive and indefinite until all outstanding salaries are paid.”
Announcing the effective date of the industrial action, the notice added: “The withdrawal of services commences at 11:59 pm today, Friday, July 10, 2026.”
The Guardian reports that the latest action is expected to disrupt academic activities at the state-owned university, with lectures, examinations and other academic engagements suspended during the period of the industrial action.
