It was a day of historic celebration for the residents of Abaranje, a rapidly expanding metropolis in Alimosho Constituency 2, as the community officially welcomed its first-ever public secondary school on Saturday.
The commissioning of the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Secondary School marks a definitive end to years of educational drought in the area, providing local children with direct access to public secondary schooling for the first time.
The establishment of the school is being hailed as a major legislative win for the lawmaker, representing Alimosho 2, Kehinde Joseph.
During his welcome address, Kehinde Joseph revealed that the inspiration for the project dated back to a 2015 charge from the First Lady.
“In 2015, Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, charged us to always put the people first and work tirelessly for their benefit,” Joseph stated. “That message has remained with me and shaped my commitment to service.”
The lawmaker formally dedicated the facility to the students, urging them to protect the infrastructure as a collective asset.
The representative of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Lagos State, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, reaffirmed the administration’s focus on the Eko Excel Programme, which has revolutionized teaching through specialized training.
The Governor emphasised that the new one-storey structure was built without compromising on quality, ensuring that students in Abaranje learn in a world-class environment.
The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Dr. Mudashiru Obasa, commended the lawmaker, Kehinde Joseph on the successful completion of the school project, stating that he fully identified with the initiative.
Obasa noted that effective representation is defined by accountability and addressing the crucial needs of a constituency.
He remarked that by erecting such a structure, the lawmaker has performed tremendously well for his people.
“It is not just about the building, but about the capacity, ability and dedication he shows on the floor of the House, which is second to none,” Obasa said.
He further urged the constituents of Alimosho to ensure Kehinde Joseph returns to the House in the next election, describing him as one of the best hands of the State Assembly.
In her keynote address, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu represented by Alawiye King, praised the collaborative effort between the state and the local representative. She noted that the school, which is built to accommodate over 700 students, serves a dual purpose: academic excellence and social reform.
“This project will not only provide education but will also help depopulate gangs and violent groups, while giving our children the opportunity to attain their fullest potentials,” the First Lady remarked.
