Wife of the President, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu is set to launch the “Energise Commercialisation Now” (ECoN) initiative, a Federal government empowerment in Kano State.
The First Lady’s visit scheduled for between 23th and 25th April, 2026 feature the launch of North West zonal deployment of the ECoN program.
Briefing journalists at a press conference, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs in Kano, Ibrahim Waiya, said the high-profile event is intended to drive Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology.
Waiya, disclosed that the initiative designed to “mobilise innovation, attract investment, and accelerate industrial production across the six geo-political zones will attract personalities including wives of Governors from across the zone.
Waiya added that Kano was selected to host both the national launch of ECoN and the North-West deployment in recognition of its strategic position as a commercial and industrial hub in the region.
He noted that the event would “place Kano State and the entire North-West geopolitical zone at the forefront of Nigeria’s innovation-driven economic transformation.”
The programme will bring together key stakeholders, including federal and state governments, investors, innovators, research institutions, manufacturers, and international partners to explore opportunities in innovation and industrialisation.
The Commissioner outlined that the three-day event will feature political mobilisation on the first day, innovation exhibitions and evaluation on the second day, and investment-focused deal rooms on the final day.
He further explained that the initiative aims to address the gap between research and market by identifying viable innovations, linking inventors with investors, and providing support such as intellectual property advisory and access to finance.
The Kano State Government therefore expressed confidence that the programme would drive job creation, boost local manufacturing, and position Nigeria for export-led growth, adding that “Energise Commercialisation Now will unlock the innovative potential of our people and create lasting prosperity.”
