The Catholic Bishop of Umuahia Diocese in Abia State, Dr. Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji, has announced the release and return of Rev. Fr. Mark Chimezie Godfrey from captivity, 10 days after his abduction.

Ugorji, in a statement, yesterday, thanked God that the priest returned unhurt.

He also thanked all the clergymen and others for their assistance and prayers during the difficult and trying period the priest was in captivity.

Godfrey, who is a native of Enugu State and was ordained a priest early this year, was kidnapped at St. Theresa’s Parish, Umuahia on the October 13, 2021 at Enyiukwu Road, Ohokobe Afaraukwu Ibeku in Umuahia North Local Council of Abia State.

It was gathered that his kidnappers intercepted and abducted him after he conducted a morning mass at St Gabriel’s Church, Okpururie Afaraukwu, forced him out of his Toyota Corolla car into their own vehicle and sped away to unknown destination and did not make contacts with the church or his relatives.
