The abducted Edo State Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Tony Aziegbemi has been released eleven days after he was picked by  gunmen in the Benin metropolis.

He was returning from the Government House in the Government Reservation Area (GRA) when he was abducted. Aziegbemi, a former member of the House of Representatives (Esan North East/Esan South East), was said to have been trailed by his abductors who rode in two Toyota Corolla cars on Friday, March 16.

The Guardian gathered that he was set free by his abductors in the early hours of Tuesday, March 26.Sources said he got to his Benin City residence at about 3:00a.m. to the waiting arms of his family and close friends, who had kept vigil and engaged in all night long prayers since he was taken away by the armed men.

Speaking earlier, the Edo PDP chairman said he was happy to be back home with his family. It was, however, not clear if ransom was paid for his release as the abductors had reportedly demanded  N50 million before setting him free.

When contacted, spokesperson for Edo State Police Command, Mr. Chidi Nwabuzor, simply advised newsmen to wait for an official police statement.
