Rehabilitates 143 roads, promises to build cancer centre

Governor AbdulRahaman AbdulRazak of Kwara State has resolved to probe his predecessors’ administrations.

The Commissioner for Communication, Mr. Bode Towoju, during an interactive forum with reporters in Ilorin, yesterday, said that non-transparent dealings would be met with the full weight of the law.

According to him, attempts to cross-carpet to the All Progressives Congress (APC) by any officials in any of the regimes would not guarantee them immunity against probe.

MEANWHILE, AbdulRazaq’s administration has reportedly renovated 143 roads since inception, three years ago.

The Commissioner for Works and Transport, Rotimi Ilyasu, told reporters, yesterday, that the administration had done maintenance works on over 200 roads across the three senatorial districts in the state within the period under a review.

Ilyasu said that the 143 roads were predominantly rural roads but upgraded with asphalts and interlocks.

The state government, the commissioner added, has intensified monitoring and quality assessment measures on the roads, while pleading with members of the public to refrain from dumping refuse in drainages, as it reduces the longevity of roads.

ALSO, he has promised to build a cancer centre in the state, to address the rate cancer-related diseases said to be high.

The governor, in an interactive session with Kwara indigenes in the Diaspora, explained the various steps his administration had taken to improve quality of living in the state.

Besides, he said the administration would establish the standard cancer (oncology) centre in Ilorin, to cater for the needs of the people.

He said most cancer patients from Kwara and neighbouring states often go to University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Oyo State or Lagos, that have already been stretched to the limits.

In a session that lasted more than two hours yesterday, the governor said he began with paying attention to basic healthcare services, primary education, potable water, timely payment of workers’ salary, reconnecting the hinterlands with urban centres, and working to redirect the state along developmental politics anchored on basic needs of the people.
