Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has commissioned the 5.5-kilometre Elega–Miliki–Saje–Bode-Olude–Alhaji Sugar Road in Abeokuta North and South Local Government Areas, while also announcing plans to commence the reconstruction of the Ago-Odo–Lafenwa Road.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Abiodun said the projects reflect his administration’s commitment to expanding road infrastructure and boosting economic activities across the state.
He described the Ago-Odo–Lafenwa Road as one of the abandoned projects inherited by his administration, noting that its reconstruction would improve connectivity and stimulate commerce within the axis.
The governor also revealed plans to construct a one-kilometre link road, including a bridge connecting the area to Lafenwa, following requests from community leaders and the Alake of Egbaland.
He said the newly commissioned Elega–Saje corridor had already begun to transform the area, improving mobility and increasing commercial activity, particularly at night. To further enhance safety and business activity, he announced that solar streetlights would be installed along the route.
Reaffirming his administration’s focus on infrastructure, Abiodun disclosed that about 26 roads were ready for commissioning, adding that at least one road would be inaugurated weekly in the coming months.
He also highlighted ongoing projects, including the Car Wash–Adatan Road, which he said was nearing completion.
On tourism development, the governor said the refurbished Olumo Rock Tourist Centre was attracting international attention, with the City of Milan, Italy, expressing interest in collaboration. He added that the facility’s revenue had increased from about ₦3 million annually to approximately ₦10 million weekly following its concession.
Abiodun stressed that a peaceful political environment remained essential for sustained socio-economic development, noting that his administration had maintained stability while delivering key projects.
Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, said the new road would further boost economic activities in the area and urged residents to take ownership of the project.
Traditional leaders, including the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, commended the governor for his infrastructure drive, noting visible improvements across the state.
They also praised ongoing projects such as the Car Wash–Adatan Road, expressing confidence that the administration would continue to drive economic growth and improve living standards.
