Abure tackles Obi for campaigning for another party

The Julius Abure-led Labour Party(LP) has blasted its former presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, over a directive asking members to vote for another party in the August 16, 2025, bye-election, describing his move as “misleading, mischievous, and delusional.”

In a statement he signed, Abure urged members and supporters to disregard Obi’s “malicious” instruction and vote massively for Labour Party candidates.
“Peter Obi has become a political paradox — an Uber politician who refuses to take a stand, cries wolf where there is none, and flirts with multiple parties in his desperate bid to rule Nigeria,” the statement read.

Abure accused Obi of masterminding the very crisis he now cites as justification for undermining the Labour Party, recalling his role alongside Abia State Governor Alex Otti in hosting the “illegal expanded stakeholders meeting” in Umuahia on September 4, 2024. He also alleged he co-funded the internal wrangling, even leading a protest to INEC against his party.
“Despite the goodwill he enjoyed from this leadership, Obi has repaid it with betrayal and sabotage,” Abure stated. “He lacks the competence, character, and capacity to deliver the vision of a New Nigeria.”

Abure insisted that the Labour Party has done everything within the law to ensure its candidates remain on the ballot for the bye-election and all future polls.
“We call on our candidates, members, and supporters in all affected states to stay focused, vote Labour, and deliver victory,” he declared. “Nigerians now know who Peter Obi really is.”
