Accountant-general charges MDAs to comply with tax policies

Accountant-General of the Federation, Mr Ahmed Idris
Accountant-General of the Federation, Idris Ahmed, has emphasised the need for the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to strictly comply with the tax administration policies in the country.

Ahmed, who chaired an extra-ordinary reconciliatory meeting organised by his office for the internal revenue office and the federal MDAs on unremitted taxes to Plateau State Internal Revenue Service, yesterday, disclosed that “the law guiding compliance with tax reform is binding on all MDAs.”

The meeting was held at the boardroom of the Plateau revenue service in Jos.

On the issues raised at the parley, it was imminent that much had to be done to get the parties on the same page.

Represented by one of the directors in his office, Ahmed also saw the need for greater understanding of the dynamics in revenue generation as it affects remittances of pay-as-you-earn (PAYE) from the federal MDAs.

Chairman of the revenue service, Mr. Dashe Arlat, was happy with the large turn-out of the invitees to the meeting, which he believed was an indication that all parties wanted a smooth resolution of the issues in contention.

He noted that the service was more interested in smooth relationships rather than confrontation in performing its duties.

Most heads of agencies, who spoke at the summit, submitted that they had been consistent in remitting their taxes particularly the PAYE.

It was, however, agreed at the meeting that all cases in courts be withdrawn while alternative dispute resolution (ADR) mechanism be adopted to resolve their differences for the collective interest of all.
