Deputy Governor of Adamawa State, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, has called for the adoption of smart agricultural technologies to boost food production, processing, and storage for local farmers.
She made this appeal on Thursday while receiving officials from Maroua University, Cameroon, who were on an exchange visit to Modibbo Adama University, Yola. The visit aimed to explore avenues for collaboration in teaching, research, and agricultural development.
Leading the delegation, Vice-Chancellor of Modibbo Adama University, Professor Ibrahim Umar, noted that the partnership between the two universities aligns with government policies on agriculture, climate change, and regional cooperation.
He highlighted existing collaborations with Garoua and Gaoundere universities in Cameroon, emphasizing that their shared border and cultural ties make academic and research partnerships mutually beneficial.
Deputy Governor Farauta welcomed the initiative, stressing the need for a secure and conducive learning environment.
She expressed optimism that the exchange program would enhance academic opportunities for students in Adamawa while strengthening agricultural resilience in the Lake Chad Basin, which has been affected by climate change.
On his part, Professor Idrissou Alioum, Vice-Chancellor of Maroua University, said the visit aimed to deepen collaboration with Modibbo Adama University and seek the state government’s support.
He emphasized that strengthening the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the institutions would foster student mobility, faculty exchanges, and research supervision.
The discussions also covered broader issues such as migration, border security, governance, trade, and environmental resource management, with research outcomes expected to inform policies and interventions in Adamawa State.
With both institutions committed to tackling climate-related crises and advancing agricultural innovation, the exchange visit marks a new chapter in regional academic cooperation and cross-border development efforts.
