Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, has visited flood-affected communities in Shagari and Yolde-Pate areas of Yola South Local Government Area, where at least two people were confirmed dead and several others injured following hours of torrential rainfall.

The flood, which lasted several hours, was observed to have submerged homes, farmlands, and displaced dozens of families.

Addressing journalists and victims during a visit to the Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital, Yola, where some of the injured were receiving treatment, Professor Farauta expressed concern over the extent of the destruction. She ordered the immediate provision of temporary shelters and essential relief materials to affected residents.

“We woke up to a devastating flood this morning. We have confirmed two deaths, many are injured, and several people have lost virtually everything,” she said. “The government will ensure the victims receive food, clothing, and medical care without delay.”

She noted that although the full scale of the damage could not yet be determined, all relevant disaster management agencies had been mobilised to support ongoing rescue and relief efforts.

Dr. Yusuf Nuhu, a medical officer at the Accident and Emergency Unit of the hospital, confirmed the casualty figures and said the injured victims were responding to treatment.
Meanwhile, the Head of Operations of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in the state, Ladan Ayuba, highlighted challenges faced during evacuations. According to him, some residents resisted relocation due to fears that hoodlums might loot what remained of their belongings.

One of the victims, Aliyu Mustapha, recounted the traumatic experience, saying he had lost his source of livelihood and that some children were still missing following the flood.
