ADC calls for nationwide protest, unveils #OccupyINEC Campaign

ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called for a nationwide protest against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), citing concerns over what it described as threats to democratic participation.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the party’s spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, urged Nigerians to “arise” in defence of the country’s democracy, unveiling a protest campaign tagged #OccupyINEC.

The statement, which echoed the patriotic line “Arise, O Compatriots,” framed the planned action as a civic response to alleged irregularities within the electoral system.

Footage shared alongside the post showed a peaceful gathering, with participants holding placards and waving the Nigerian flag. The visuals underscored the patriotic tone of the demonstration, as protesters called for electoral fairness while maintaining order.

Although details such as the date and structure of the nationwide protest were not disclosed, the development has already begun to generate reactions across political and public spaces.

As of the time of filing this report, INEC had not issued an official response to the claims.

Political observers say the call for protest reflects growing concerns among stakeholders over transparency and fairness in Nigeria’s electoral process, particularly as the country approaches future election cycles
