ADC factions sheathe swords, reunite ahead of 2027 elections

African Democratic Congress (ADC)

The lingering factional crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Plateau State may be heading for a decisive resolution, as the State Chairman, Hon. Farmer Dung Daweng Pam, has announced a fresh reconciliation initiative aimed at uniting all aggrieved members ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Pam disclosed this in an interview with journalists on Tuesday, August 18th , 2026, at the ADC Secretariat, Kalwa House, along Bukuru Road, Jos, shortly after returning from an invitation by the Police at the Bukuru Area Command, Sabon Barki, Jos.

According to the chairman, the police invitation followed a petition alleging that the ADC secretariat had been burgled by members of a group claiming to be championing the party’s leadership, shortly after the group held a press conference questioning the legitimacy of the existing party structure.

Pam said the matter was extensively discussed with the Assistant Commissioner of Police at the Area Command, describing the intervention of the police as timely and constructive, particularly because the political season was already gathering momentum.

He disclosed that the police authorities advised the contending sides to “sheathe their swords” and embrace reconciliation, stressing that the ADC could not afford prolonged internal disputes with elections approaching.

Pam said representatives of the opposing group withdrew their petition and affirmed him as the recognized State Chairman of the party, while both sides subsequently signed undertakings committing themselves to maintaining peace and avoiding actions capable of further deepening the crisis.

The chairman, who said he was accompanied by members of the State Executive Committee, the 17 Local Government Area chairmen, party stakeholders and representatives of the faction associated with former Minister of Sports, Hon. Solomon Dalung, said the development had opened a fresh window for genuine reconciliation within the party.

He explained that the party would immediately constitute a reconciliation committee to reach out to all aggrieved members and factions, assuring that the objective was not to reopen old wounds but to bring every member back into one political family.

Pam acknowledged that disagreements had emerged over allegations concerning attempts to undermine the party’s governorship candidate, General John Sura , but maintained that political differences could be resolved through forgiveness, dialogue and the party’s internal mechanisms.

“We can always forgive because we have already fought the fight,” Pam said, insisting that the party’s focus should now shift from internal disagreements to the larger objective of providing good governance and serving the people of Plateau State.

He further appealed to all members who had withdrawn from party activities to return, stressing that there was room for everyone in the ADC and that the reconciliation process would provide an opportunity for members to put their differences behind them and work collectively.

The chairman also cautioned against taking internal party disagreements directly to the police, noting that the ADC had established mechanisms for resolving disputes through its zonal and national structures before resorting to external intervention.

While appreciating the police for their intervention, Pam said the advice to unite had reinforced the need for the party to deploy its internal conflict-resolution structures, including the North-Central zonal leadership and, where necessary, the national secretariat.

He declared that reports of division within the ADC should henceforth be treated as a thing of the past, saying the return of the contending group to the party fold had strengthened its capacity to prosecute its political programmes and rally support for its governorship candidate.

Pam therefore called on party members, supporters and stakeholders to close ranks, insisting that the ADC was now focused, united and determined to participate strongly in the 2027 governorship contest, with its leadership committed to taking Plateau State to a new level of development and good governance.

He added that the party’s renewed unity would disappoint those hoping to exploit its internal disagreements for political advantage, declaring that the ADC was ready to move forward as one family and pursue its political objectives with renewed vigour.
