The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed the claim made by a former vice presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, that the opposition coalition under the ADC is “deceiving Nigerians.”
ADC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Jackie Wayas, said in a statement on Saturday that Baba-Ahmed’s views, shared on Channels TV, are personal and do not represent the party or its coalition partners.
“Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed is a respected voice who has always stood for integrity and justice, and since the coalition is a collective effort that requires the strength and skills of all patriots, we sincerely hope he comes on board to contribute to this shared vision for a better Nigeria, ” the statement reads.
Wayas emphasised that the coalition was formed following extensive consultations among seasoned leaders, including Atiku Abubakar (former vice-president), Nasir el-Rufai (former governor of Kaduna), David Mark (former senate president), Rauf Aregbesola (former governor of Osun), Rotimi Amaechi (former minister of transportation), and others.
“His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi has publicly affirmed his dedication to the coalition and the adoption of ADC as the platform for the 2027 elections, ” the statement added.
“In a public statement on July 3, 2025, Mr. Obi declared, and I quote: ‘Yesterday, the coalition members formally adopted the African Democratic Congress, ADC, for the 2027 Nigeria General Elections… Our commitment is to sacrifice and work together towards the 2027 General Elections, ensuring that Nigeria gets a competent, capable, and compassionate leadership that will prioritise the nation’s future by putting the welfare of Nigerians first.”
She stated that the coalition prioritises national interest over partisan divides and is dedicated to providing competent and compassionate leadership. Wayas reaffirmed that the ADC remains focused on uniting the opposition to rescue the country from hardship.
