The Senator representing Lagos West, Senator Idiat Oluranti Adebule, has organised a-day training for traditional rulers in Lagos West Senatorial District on Security and Community Relations.
The event had in attendance, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Ahmed Lateef, from the State CID, Panti, who represented the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olanrewaju Ishola.
The commissioner urged the traditional rulers to avoid being found wanting in land disputes in any part of the metropolis.
While noting that security is everyone’s responsibility and it would be wrong and counterproductive for any traditional ruler to connive with those encouraging violence in this regard within their domain, he urged traditional rulers to work closely with the Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) within their jurisdictions since they are also members of Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in their respective areas.
The Commissioner noted that it is not only the security agencies that have the power to arrest those found causing chaos in the society but the constitution provides the people to do so and hand them over to the police.
On her part, the convener of the event Senator Idiat Oluranti Adebule said the forum was to demonstrate the beauty and benefits of communal actions in tackling security challenges in the area.
She urged residents to be proactive and give timely information to security operatives for the safety of their lives and properties adding that we should not focus only on the kinetic aspect in terms of security but non-kinetic is equally important.
Adebule said any security plan without concern for the people at the grassroots will not succeed saying that the forum was to further the synergy between the Traditional institutions and security agencies.
