*Kashamu Dismisses His Suspension As Joke

The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday suspended seven of its members in the state, including Senator Buruji Kashamu, Bayo Dayo, Pegba Otemolu, Semiu Shodipo, Fatai Adeyanju, Segun Seriki, Daisi Akitan and Bowale Solaja.

But Kashamu, representing Ogun East in the National Assembly, in a statement in Lagos by his media aide, Austin Oniyokor, said it was preposterous that anyone could claim to have suspended well-meaning elders and leaders, adding that he could not be suspended from the party.

The party in a release in Abeokuta yesterday signed by its factional Chairman, Sikirulai Ogundele, disclosed that their suspension was sequel to the report of a panel constituted in June this year to investigate allegations of financial improprieties, anti-party activities and sundry acts “capable of bringing our great party to disrepute.”

In their separate reaction, the suspended members, who belonged to the Kashamu faction, described their suspension as illegal and cannot “stand.”

The Kashamu’s faction, in a statement, urged all party faithful, the media and general public to dismiss the purported suspension as “another desperate plot of the interlopers seeking to forcefully take over the leadership of the party in the state, saying they have no locus or legal basis to take any action as reported.

“We also use this medium to call on security agencies to enforce all reports and legal documents that establishes the authenticity of our executive, while at the same time halt the impostors for their contemptuous actions,” it added.

Kashamu appealed to members to remain calm and law-abiding, knowing full well that the national leadership crisis has no effect on the Makanjuola Ogundipe-led Zonal Working Committee and the Adebayo Dayo-led State Executive Committee.
