National President of Government College, Ibadan Old Boys Association (GCIOBA), Olawale Babalakin, SAN, has called on schools at all levels, to ensure the number of students admitted aligns with available learning facilities.

Babalakin made the call during the 2023 annual reunion and public lecture of the association, yesterday, in Akure, Ondo State, noting that schools in Nigeria have been reduced to mere shadows of their former selves.

At the event organised by the Ondo State chapter, led by Wale Akinterinwa as Chairman and Adeolu Akinwumi as Secretary, Babalakin lamented the negative impact of mass admission into schools without due regard for learning facilities.

Delivering a lecture titled “Educating for Leadership: The Perspective of a GCI Old Boy,” Dr. Adeyemi Dipeolu implored the audience, particularly students from secondary schools invited to the programme, to always strive to be their best in serving in whatever capacity.

In his address, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Education, Dr. Olawumi Olawale, commended the GCI authority for maintaining the standard of the school in all spheres. In his remarks, National Social Secretary, September 1991, Adeolu Akinwumi, disclosed that GCIOBA is currently running their alma mater.
