A party source explained that the AEDC’s bill was on the table of the party’s national treasurer, Alhaji Muhammed Gwagwarwa, over paucity of funds.
It is not known how many months the party owes that amounted to the alleged N1.7 million.
The distribution companies have decried high profile debts ranging to tens of billions of naira. The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, who is a chieftain of APC, had also argued severally, that every government agency must pay its electricity bill for it to enjoy power.
According to him, the power sector has been privatized and is being run by private entities that have invested money and for them to continue in the business and provide service; they must recoup their investment and make profits.
Also, the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) had emphasized the prompt payment of bills as a prerequisite for improvement in power supply.
