AFC targets making Abuja Africa’s MMA capital

The African Fighting Championship (AFC) said its vision is to position Nigeria on the global MMA stage and establish Abuja as Africa’s premier destination for Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).

Addressing journalists at the Velodrome, National Stadium, Abuja, on the sideline of the AFC 001 event, the Co-founders Raad Aswani and George Oladipupo Younes orchestrated the highly anticipated night, launching a continent-wide MMA movement.

The event, sanctioned by the Nigerian Mixed Martial Arts Federation (NMMAF) and attended by its President, Ambassador Henry George, marked a significant milestone for MMA in Nigeria.

AFC 001 brought an electrifying atmosphere as over 20 fighters battled in 11 intense bouts, showcasing talent, skill, and passion.

Fighters from across Africa, including Nigeria’s Jeb Philemon and Believe Ohaioe, Cameroon’s Ayinde Octave, and Burkina Faso’s Abdul Razak, embodied AFC’s mission to unite African fighters under one banner, sparking enthusiasm for MMA across the continent.

Also speaking, Ambassador Mary Onyali, representing former Sports Minister Hon. Sunday Dare, witnessed the action firsthand, later expressing her amazement at the AFC’s high energy production and the athletes’ intensity in the cage. “I was completely captivated by the event,”

For Aswani and Younes, AFC 001 was the realisation of a long-held dream. “We’ve always believed that Africa has the talent and drive to produce world-class fighters,” said Younes.

The event showcased Africa’s MMA potential to fans and fighters alike.

Launching this new era, the AFC founders are dedicated to building a sustained presence in Abuja bringing top fighters, high-level production, and unmatched energy to elevate MMA across Africa. With each event, AFC aims to solidify Abuja as the heart of African MMA.
