Afenifere lauds Osun for immortalising Ige

The Afenifere Renewal Group (ARG) has commended Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State for re-christening the state’s university after the late Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Bola Ige.

The state chapter of the group in a statement yesterday in Osogbo by its Publicity Secretary, Kola Olabisi, noted that the honour done the slain senior lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) was well deserved.

“We acknowledge also the recognition accorded other distinguished leaders, including Chief Bisi Akande, who have played significant roles in the development of our society.”

It would be recalled that Ige, also former governor of old Oyo State, was murdered in his Ibadan, Oyo State residence on December 23, 2001.

“Both in life and death, Chief Ajibola Ige is eminently qualified to have any state or national institution named after him just like his colleague governors, Professor Ambrose Alli,
Chief Olu Onabanjo and Chief Adekunle Ajasin, all of blessed memory.

“If not because of politics of hatred that has been the stock in trade in this country, it wouldn’t be too much to have a national monument named after Chief Bola Ige.

“It is on record that Chief Ige was a success story in both his private, professional and public life engagements,” ARG added.
