Afenifere rejects rival faction’s negative mid-term report on Tinubu’s govt

The pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, on Thursday disowned a purported mid-term assessment of President Bola Tinubu’s federal government, which was issued in the name of the organisation by a rival faction.

The Ayo Adebanjo-led faction of Afenifere had harshly criticised Tinubu’s administration, claiming it had failed Nigerians “abysmally” over the past two years, citing regression in human development, economic mismanagement, and democratic decline.

Its leader, Oladipo Olaitan, and spokesperson, Justice Faloye, led this assessment.

In response, the faction led by Chief Reuben Fasoranti, through National Publicity Secretary Jare Ajayi, urged the public to disregard the report, stressing that it did not represent the official position of Afenifere.

While acknowledging the serious challenges Nigerians face, the Fasoranti faction expressed optimism that the government is actively implementing measures to alleviate the hardships and establish frameworks for a stable future.

“We have, at various times, advised those in government on urgent issues and proposed solutions,” the statement read. “We will continue to provide support and counsel through appropriate channels to ensure inclusive progress benefiting our people.”

The organisation also expressed hope that as Tinubu’s administration enters its third year, the soaring costs of transportation and food will ease, and security will improve, notably through the anticipated prompt establishment of state police.
