Again fire guts two markets in Kano as governor donates N250m to Singer, Rimi and Kurmi fire victims

A fire outbreak has destroyed over 40 shops at Dan Dabino Tomato Market in Bagwai Local Council of Kano State. The Public Relations Officer, Kano State Fire Service,  Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, who disclosed this to newsmen, said, Bichi Fire Station received a distress call from staff officer at Bichi Police Station, that Dan Dabino seasonal tomato market was on fire. 
 
“On arrival the fire fighters discovered that an area of about 500 X 300 feet, used as a tomato seasonal market, was engulfed by fire. The team succeeded in putting out the fire, and prevented it from spreading to 20 permanent shops, event centre and parking space, located near the tomato market. 
 
“The cause of the fire was attributed to abnormal use of naked fire. Similarly, another fire destroyed seven shops in Sumaila Local Council, which was caused by an electric spark from a phone accessories shop. The fire razed a floor of about 100 X 40 feet used as a business premises.”

MEANWHILE, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has announced the donation of N200 million and N50 million to the victims of fire disaster at Singer, Rimi and Kurmi Markets respectively. 
 
The state’s Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Muhammad Garba, who disclosed this in a statement, yesterday, said the release of the fund would provide succour to the affected traders, who lost their valuables to the fire.  He said the leadership of the traders’ associations would be formally presented with the cheques of N250 million by the governor.
