Again, six persons injured as Ganduje’s, Kwankwaso’s loyalists clash in Kano
Again, no fewer than six persons sustained various degrees of injuries yesterday in Kano. This followed a clash between two factions of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state. The Guardian leant that some loyalists of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje allegedly attacked the supporters of former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso at a wedding.
Few days ago, some Kwankwaso’s supporters were attacked at Chiranchi quarters in Gwale Local Council Area. The attack came after a video clip went allegedly asking the governor’s supporters to attack Kwankwaso with stones.Kwankwaso is scheduled to visit Kano on January 30 for a local council election’s campaign, slated for February 10.
Yesterday’s incident occurred at around 11:00a.m at the wedding of one of an APC member. The six persons were reportedly wounded, including an ally of the former governor, Walid Abbas Sanusi, and a stepbrother to Abbas Sanusi.
It was alleged that two children of the state Commissioner for Special Duties, Sani Abdullahi Abbas and Abbas Abdulahi Abbas (Jnr) were part of attackers. The attack was purportedly led by one of the commissioner’s aide, called Shawuya.
A Kwankwasiyya group member, Sunusi Surajo Kwankwaso, confirmed the incident. The former Organising Secretary of the APC in Kano blamed the crisis on negligence of the security agents. He lamented that the security agency did not react to the alarm raised by the group. He said: “It was a surprise that Abdullahi Abbas had not be arrested or invited by the security agents over his alleged statement in the video clip.’’
According to him, the situation is calling on the residents to protect themselves. However, several calls and text messages made to the commissioner failed, as he declined to respond. The factional leader of the state’s APC, Bashir Yahaya Karaye, could not also be reached for his response.
Confirming the clash however, the spokesman of the state Police Command, Magaji Musa Majia, said the police have started investigation on the crisis. He promised to disclose the findings as soon as investigations were concluded.
