Multiple reports claimed that Akeredolu died of leukemia in Germany in the early hours of Wednesday.
However, the Ondo state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Bamidele Ademola-Olateju in a statement stated that Akeredolu died of complications arising from protracted prostate cancer.
“Mr. Governor peacefully departed from this world in the early hours of today, Wednesday, December 27, 2023,” Ademola-Olateju stated.

“This tragedy has left behind a profound void in our hearts. Governor Akeredolu answered the eternal call while receiving medical treatment in Germany.
“He succumbed to complications arising from protracted prostate cancer.”
According to Ademola-Olateju, a letter has been sent to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to officially notify him of the sad incident.

The Commissioner also said that the deceased’s family and the Ondo State government will release further details regarding the funeral arrangements.
The 67-year-old Akeredolu returned to Nigeria in September after embarking on a three-month medical leave in Germany.
He handed over to his deputy Lucky Aiyedatiwa in December to proceed on another medical leave before his death.
