The lawmaker representing Egbeda/Ona Ara Federal Constituency, Honourable Akin Alabi, has set a new legislative record in the National Assembly by presenting 10 bills within one week.
In a historic move this week, Alabi, who is the Chairman of the House Committee on Works, was said to have presented a series of impactful bills on the floor of the House of Representatives, all of which successfully passed their first reading.
A statement from his office in Abuja on Thursday indicated that the bills, which reflect Hon. Alabi’s focus on reform and national development, covered a broad range of issues aimed at enhancing good governance, promoting fairness, and improving service delivery for Nigerians.
According to the statement, among the notable bills were: “Domestic Workers’ Rights Bill, which would establish minimum standards for the welfare and protection of domestic workers, ensuring fair treatment and improved working conditions in this often-overlooked sector”
Alabi, who has spent 16 months in office, was among seven lawmakers in Oyo, who did not sponsor any bill between June 2023 and May 2024, this is why the historic move has surprised many.
The statement also reaffirmed his dedication to reforming key sectors of Nigeria’s governance, “These legislative proposals are geared toward reforming critical sectors of our governance, ensuring fairness, accountability, and improved services for all Nigerians.
