The District Governor, Rotary International, District 9111, comprising Lagos and Ogun states, Henry Akinyele, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all political leaders to sanitise the society and continue with the economic partnership with international nations to strengthen Nigeria’s agricultural sector and others.
Also, the former President of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Michael Olawale Cole, enjoined Nigerians, particularly the political leaders, to realise that the service they are elected to render is not about ‘self’ but to impact every Nigerian, the less privileged and the various communities.
The duo gave the admonitions during a programme titled “Elders Hangout,” organised for elders in Rotary Club who have clocked 70 years and above, which took place at the Rotary Centre, Ladoke Akintola, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos.
“We have a better future in Nigeria, which is signified by still having one Nigeria till today.
“This is the reason I am pleading with our leaders to continue to develop our infrastructure to enhance our economic growth in terms of good roads and good networking.”
“We are already in the world of technology that compels us to continue to diversify our economy from oil to other areas, including entertainment,” Akinyele said.
Akinyele, who disclosed that Rotary International had been able to upscale its endowment to over $2 billion, congratulated the celebrants for their focus on impacting the less privileged and their various communities.
He described the event, which is the second edition, as a confirmation that committed Rotarians would always be rewarded and not forgotten, irrespective of their age, saying that this should also encourage the younger ones.
Past President and Chairman, Elders Forum Committee, Olaniran Fafowora, said the celebrants had been active, hence, they were celebrated with awards.
Former Health Minister, Julius Adewale Adelusi-Adeluyi, said the event was a reward of being good elders.
