Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his commitment to the development of the Niger Delta, describing him, as a dependable leader, who is genuinely interested in the progress of the region and Nigeria.

He stated this yesterday at the inauguration of executives of a political support group, Akwa Ibom Democratic Forum (ADF), insisting that the President’s commitment and determination towards the development of the Niger Delta was evident in the accelerated work on the East-West Road.

“Work on the construction of the bridge on the Ikot-Abasi-Oruk-Anam axis is going on at great speed, the bridge will be ready by March 2021, after which the Oron-Calabar bridge will be done for the East-West Road to be completed,” he said.

Akpabio expressed gratitude to President for being resolute, adding that by his actions, he had endeared himself to Nigerians as a dependable leader.

He named Obongemem Ekperikpe Ekpo as Director-General and Ubokutom Nyah as alternate Director-General of the ADF during its inauguration at the Esteemed Schools premises in Abak, Akwa Ibom State.

At the event, which was witnessed by critical stakeholders, Akpabio was unanimously appointed as grand leader of the group, after which he said he was excited with ADF’s motto: Dependable Leadership.

Citing his time as governor of Akwa Ibom between 2007 and 2015, the minister explained that dependable leadership meant dividends of democracy, water for the people, quality education for children, end to COVID-19, provision of medical care and quality infrastructure.

He charged the leadership of ADF to be transparent in leadership, stating that it was the only attribute that could enhance survival of the group.

Speaking, Ekpo said the forum had resolved to unite in solidarity with Akpabio’s selfless service to humanity with little regard for political affiliation.

Ekpo, a former member of the House of Representative, said ADF’s mission was to support, promote and encourage transparent and dedicated leaders like Akpabio, as well as correct leaders who derail with a view to ensuring delivery of dividends of democracy to Akwa Ibom people and Nigerians.

He applauded President Buhari for appointing Akpabio Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, adding that he (Akpabio) has untapped potentials to turn things around for the region.
