Akpomudje, Majoroh rally support for sixth GCU Relays

Charles Majoroh

The sixth edition of the yearly Government College Ughelli (GCU) Relays is less than 30 days away and the countdown has effectively begun. Spontaneously, both the immediate Past President General and President General Worldwide of GCUOBA, Charles Majoroh, and Chief Albert Akpomudje, have called for increased support for the GCU Relays.

Seven years into the GCU Relays, the tartan tracks, which were built and donated by NNPC/SHELL are in need of urgent rehabilitation.

“We should be able to fix some of the peeled-off sections with a proper patch for the immediate period,” Majoroh said. But Akpomudje, who is pushing for more sustainable and long-lasting work on the tracks said: “We still must reach out to corporate Nigeria, especially NNPC/SHELL for much more comprehensive job on the Tracks.”

Familiar powerhouses, Hussey College and Urhobo College are up against emerging opposing forces of Federal Government College, Warri, and Novena University Staff College, Kwale, as well as hosts, Government College, Ughelli, who at the last edition, dazzled in the modern kits donated by Ancient Mariner, Sir Joseph Arumemi- Ikhide.

The stakes are higher than before with improved rewards setting the tone for an intense battle between the perennial contenders and ambitious debutants. Key to the GCU Relays “is to progressively build and cement healthy interaction between secondary schools and students from different states of the Federation.”

The GCU Relays is an initiative of the Government College Ughelli Old Boys Association Worldwide. November 9 is locked down for the sixth edition.
