Akwa Ibom governor mourns late police commissioner Waheed Ayilara
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has conveyed his heartfelt condolences following the untimely and tragic death of the state’s Commissioner of Police, Waheed Ayilara. In a message released by his Chief Press Secretary, Ekerete Udoh, Governor Eno paid tribute to Ayilara, describing him as one of the finest operational officers in the Nigerian Police Force and a gentleman who embodied the highest ideals of law enforcement.
Governor Eno lauded the late Commissioner for his exceptional service to Akwa Ibom State, highlighting his reputation as an outstanding crime-buster and a key figure in the state’s security framework.

“He served our dear state as the Police Commissioner until his sad passing, where he distinguished himself as a crime-buster of no mean repute,” Eno stated.
Ayilara’s deep connection to Akwa Ibom State was also emphasised, with Governor Eno recalling that he began his service to the state during his National Youth Service and later returned as the Unit Commander of Police Mobile Unit 26. His role in shaping Akwa Ibom’s security landscape, alongside other security agencies, was pivotal in establishing the state as one of the safest and most secure places to live, work, and invest.

Governor Eno extended his deepest sympathies to Ayilara’s family, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the entire Akwa Ibom State Police Command.
“He will be deeply missed,” the governor noted, underscoring the void left by Ayilara’s passing in the state’s security apparatus.
In closing, Governor Eno expressed hope that the legacy of service and dedication left behind by the late Commissioner would inspire continued commitment to maintaining peace and security in Akwa Ibom. “May his soul rest in perfect peace,” he concluded.
