Governor Udom Emmanuel of of Akwa Ibom State, has challenged human resources managers in the country to take active part in public service and politics, where they are expected to bring their expertise to bear, with a view to properly harnessing the country’s abundant resources for the nation’s good.

The governor who spoke at the investiture ceremony of the 18th President/Chairman of Council of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPMN), Udom Inoyo, in Lagos State, observed that the best group of people to make meanings out of an economy like ours are professionals in politics, who are seen not to be desperate for anything, since they have their names and integrity to protect.

According to him, the most important of all resources is the human capital; hence expertise in it brings about tremendous ability to get results, adding that the inability to manage people in the country has overtime remained the greatest challenge, depriving leadership of the ability to manage their mindset positively.

The new CIPMN President/Chairman in his speech stated that HR as a practice is sometimes misunderstood and unrewarded because of lack of proper appreciation of its roles for development.

Speaking on “Resourcing Leadership, Nigeria Affliction, CIPM Opportunity,” he lamented that people, who lack the necessary skills to manage such positions, thereby rubbing off on the people through their dismal performances, manage some offices.
