The Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) yesterday declared that governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) would not participate in or support any political alliance capable of undermining the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu or weakening the ruling party.

Chairman of the PGF, Senator Hope Uzodimma, disclosed this while briefing journalists after a closed-door meeting of APC governors at the Imo State Governors’ Lodge in Abuja.
Uzodimma, who was flanked by Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, and his Kwara State counterpart, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, among others, said the governors had unanimously agreed to work together to protect the interests of the party and its candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He said the governors resolved that none of them would participate in, support or encourage any political arrangement that could adversely affect Tinubu’s re-election bid or the electoral fortunes of APC candidates at any level.

According to him, the decision was part of efforts to ensure that the party remained united as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections.
“We unanimously resolved that each member would not participate in, or support, any alliance in any political arrangement capable of undermining the re-election of Mr. President, weakening the APC or adversely affecting any candidate of the party at all levels,” Uzodimma said.
The PGF chairman also clarified that the governors’ campaign structures would be exclusively devoted to candidates contesting elections under the APC platform.

“The Governors Campaign Committees is exclusively for all APC candidates. No division or competing interests would be entertained,” he said.
Uzodimma’s declaration came against the backdrop of renewed political realignments and moves by opposition political actors to build a formidable coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.
The APC governors, however, appeared determined to prevent such developments from creating divisions within the ruling party or weakening its electoral machinery.

The Imo governor said the governors would remain focused on strengthening the APC and ensuring that its candidates received the necessary political support across the country.
He stressed the importance of unity among the governors, saying the party’s electoral prospects would depend largely on their ability to work collectively and avoid interests that could undermine the APC.
The position also appears to signal a coordinated effort by APC governors to rally behind Tinubu as the party’s presidential candidate while simultaneously defending the interests of APC candidates contesting for elective positions at the federal and state levels.

With the 2027 elections approaching, political parties and major political actors have intensified consultations, alliances and realignments in preparation for what is expected to be a keenly contested electoral battle.
The governors’ resolution is therefore expected to further consolidate the APC’s internal campaign strategy and reinforce the party’s efforts to present a united front ahead of the elections.
