Akwa Ibom State Government has warned land owners, who have not developed their plots, to do so without delay, as plans are on to revoke undeveloped allocations.
This was disclosed by the state Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources, Capt. Iniobong Ekong (rtd), while speaking with newsmen in Uyo, yesterday.
He said government’s decision followed observation that most undeveloped plots had turned into criminal hideouts, stressing that government had vowed to evoke the law and power of land administration to check insecurity.
He stressed that government would review land administration law to ensure land allocated to citizens were put to proper use.
Ekong expressed displeasure over land allocated to some organisations since the time of Obong Victor Attah as governor, which were yet to be developed.
Recall that the state government, during the administration of Victor Attah, allocated plots of land to government agencies, corporate organisations and individuals to build offices and factories as part of efforts to promote industrial activities in the state.
“The power of land administration is with government; if they have decided to allocate land for which ever purposes, that becomes law and it then becomes enforceable and whoever tries to play with the law will face judgment.”
Also speaking on the state of insecurity on the area, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Odiko Macdon, said police were aware of criminal acts in the area and had taken steps to sanitise it.
