Former Governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Sheriff, is currently in custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The ex-governor, who came into the commission’s headquarters at 6.00 p.m. yesterday, is under interrogation for alleged financial misconduct during his tenure as helmsman of the state.

This news is coming amid speculations that President Muhammadu Buhari had sacked the EFCC chairman, Ibrahim Lamorde, though it’s spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, in a telephone chat said: “If I’m aware that he (Lamorde) has been replaced, I would tell you.”

Without giving details, Uwujaren confirmed that Modu Sheriff was still in EFCC custody till very late yesterday but was not sure if he could have left the same night considering that he came in late in the evening.

He did not rule out the possibility of the former governor sleeping in custody last night. Uwujaren had told a news conference a week ago that the EFCC might declare Modu Sheriff wanted for failing to honour its invitation.
