The Alimosho Country Club has bestowed honours on four members of the group for their meritorious and selfless services in uplifting the club to its current pedestal.

The awardees include the founding vice president of the club and Baloro of Idimuland in Alimosho Local Council, Chief Edward Awofisibe; a professor of medicine, Prof. Jelili Akinwade; Otunba Adedayo Adebayo and Nicholas Ajayi.

Chairman of the Club, Sabitu Olusola, who spoke at the ceremony held in Lagos, said the award was in recognition of the awardees’ contributions and selfless service to the community.

According to him, the awards were for deserving members. who have contributed to the development of the club in the Alimosho area of Lagos State.

“Those awarded on this occasion are prominent members of the club established in 1993. Though the club became more vibrant in 2016 after some years in oblivion, but was brought back to life and I have been chairman of the club since then.

“The decision to honour four of our members was due to their selfless contributions to the development of the club. The honour is given in line with the aims and objectives of the union, which they met the requirements. I equally urge other members of the club to try and emulate them,” he said.

While expressing ecstasy over the honour, one of the awardees, Awofisibe, said he felt elated that he was rewarded at the end of the day for his effort in making sure that the club grows to an enviable height.

“Recognising someone means a lot. There are lots of people who would have loved to be recognised but yet don’t get it. And if a group of people calls you for recognition, I think it matters a lot.

“When you look at the calibre of people that were being honoured today, which also included a professor, a doctor and two prominent politicians in the state, then it tells you the importance attached to this award. And I want to say it is an honour to be one of them.

“I have always wanted to be the chairman of this club after contesting several times, but it never came to reality. Part of my plans would have been to ensure that the chairmanship of the club goes round so that others can also aspire to the position of the chairman for them to also contribute their quotas to the group,” he said.
