The Executive Chairman of Ini Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Hon. Inibehe Umah, has commissioned a borehole project at the Primary Healthcare Operational Base in Odoro Ikpe, ending years of water scarcity at the facility.
The project provides clean and safe water to the health centre, addressing a critical challenge that had persisted since the facility was established more than five years ago.
Despite serving as a major healthcare centre for residents, the facilityhad operated without a functional water supply, a situation that affected efficient healthcare delivery.
Speaking during the commissioning, Umah reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure and providing essential amenities in line with Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda.
He described access to potable water as fundamental to quality healthcare delivery, expressing satisfaction that the long-standing challenge had finally been resolved.
“Our administration remains committed to implementing people-oriented projects that improve the quality of life and well-being of residents across the ten wards of Ini Local Government Area,” he said.
The council chairman also flagged off the continuation of the Free Medical Outreach and Grassroots Mobile Medical Intervention Programme for Wards 1, 9 and 10.
The outreach attracted about 1,000 beneficiaries, who received free medical consultations, diagnosis, treatment and prescribed medications.
Beyond the free healthcare services, each beneficiary received ₦10,000 financial support from the council chairman to assist with feeding and proper nutrition while undergoing treatment.
“We want our people not only to receive medical treatment and drugs but also to have the financial support needed to feed well and continue their medications for full recovery,” Umah said.
The Leader of the Ini Legislative Council, Hon. Donald Usoroh, commended the chairman for combining free healthcare with financial assistance for beneficiaries.
He prayed for God’s continued wisdom, strength and grace upon Umah to sustain the delivery of democratic dividends to the people.
Also speaking, the Village Head of Ibam Obot Enen, Obong Samuel Inyang (JP), lauded the chairman’s commitment to improving the welfare of residents, noting that the medical outreach and financial support would significantly ease the burden on rural dwellers.
Other stakeholders, community leaders and beneficiaries described the initiatives as timely interventions thathad brought relief to hundreds of families. They also praised the provision of potable water at the healthcare facility, saying both projects reflected the administration’s responsiveness to the needs of the people.
The event was attended by the Vice Chairman of Ini Local Government Area, Hon. Veronica Bassey; the Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Donald Usoroh; the Secretary to the Council, Hon. Ubong Mkpa; councillors, supervisors, directors, traditional rulers, political stakeholders, community leaders and other dignitaries from across the local government area.
The commissioning of the borehole project and the flag-off of the medical outreach underscore the Umah administration’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery, expanding access to basic social amenities and enhancing the welfare of residents across Ini Local Government Area.
