Founder of the Gbenga Obilade Foundation and diplomat, Ambassador (Dr.) Gbenga Clement Obilade, on Thursday, formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in 2027, saying continuity is critical to sustaining Nigeria’s current reform trajectory.
Speaking at a press conference held at SDM Tavern Hotel, near UCH, Ibadan, Obilade said his support for the President was driven by what he described as “visible reforms, bold decisions and inclusive development strides” recorded under the Tinubu administration. The briefing also doubled as a review of the foundation’s empowerment initiatives and its vision for deeper community impact across the South-West.
In a keynote address titled “Building Bridges, Breaking Barriers: The Power of Community Empowerment,” he described empowerment as “a revolution of hope and action,” adding that communities thrive when they have the tools and opportunities to unlock their potential.
Obilade highlighted the foundation’s interventions in education and economic empowerment, including scholarship schemes, skills training, mentorship programmes and microfinance support. According to him, the initiatives have helped accelerate upward mobility for youths and women across communities in Oyo State and beyond.
Turning to national politics, the diplomat commended what he called the “courageous reforms” of the current administration, noting that Tinubu had demonstrated visionary leadership by “breaking barriers and building bridges of progress” in key sectors. He listed ongoing infrastructure expansion, rehabilitation of primary health centres, agricultural reforms, education initiatives and the establishment of new federal institutions as efforts that have set the country on the path of renewal.
He argued that the gains made so far justify the call for continuity, warning that a break in policy direction could slow down national progress. “President Tinubu deserves a second term based on the foundation he has laid. Nigerians, particularly in the South-West, must rally behind him so this transformative work is not interrupted,” he said.
Obilade stressed that his endorsement was not merely political but anchored on a desire for stability and sustainable development. He called for the grooming of future leaders who can uphold the ideals of integrity, inclusion and people-centred governance, adding that the foundation is committed to nurturing such leadership.
“We must raise leaders who understand the aspirations of our people and are ready to build on what has been started,” he said, urging Nigerians to work collectively toward a future built on unity and shared purpose.
Reaffirming his personal resolve, Obilade pledged to continue fighting poverty, expand opportunities for young people, and promote a society “where no one is left behind.” He insisted that continuity of leadership and collective civic action are essential for sustaining the country’s gains.
He ended with a passionate appeal for widespread support for President Tinubu’s 2027 bid, describing it as “a necessary step toward the Nigeria of our collective dreams.”
The event was attended by several political figures and community leaders, including APC chieftains such as Prince John Oyetunji Aremu, Hon. Moteleola Taiwo, Hon. Sayo Fatoki, Hon. Fatima Hassan, Egbeda APC Chairman Hon. Olaleye Olawale, former Ona-Ara LG Chairman Hon. Bola Fawole, and notable traditional leaders, including Baale Elerinmi, Chief Rasaq Ajenikoko.
