Lagos State governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has lauded the local council bosses for bringing development to their communities. He said the communities in the state were taking control of their lives and shaping a future for themselves and their children.

Ambode said various council leaders have, in line with the present administration’s goal, ensured peaceful co-existence and have brought development to the neighbourhood.

Ambode, who was represented by the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris at the 2017 Community Day held at Kosofe Local Council said: “It is becoming conscious of the need to liberate our communities from oppressive problem keeping us from achieving our well-being. If communities, without means of coercion, can collectively persuade themselves to build roads and police posts, without firing shots, are able to resolve to finance the construction of health centres and community centres, they teach us the values of independence and responsibility,” he said.

The governor, who commended the council chairmen, said many of the records achieved at the grassroots were models of gallantry, organizational acumen, communal solidarity, prudence and sacrifice.

“We salute the leaders in our various communities for rising up to the challenge and making history. Our administration is proud that the decision to revive the communities as a critical stakeholder in governance and the conscious effort to integrate them into the government has inspired community leaders and boosted the morale of our people,” he added.

He, however, commended the traditional rulers, Community development Associations (CDAs) chairmen, members of the Community Development Committees (CDCs) and other stakeholders for their collective efforts in ensuring a safer and better society.
