THREE Community Development Associations (CDAs) in Lagos State-Agodo Alara, Ikorodu; Oke-Balo; and UNILAG Estate, Magodo have emerged the best three CDAs in project implementation in the state.

They were presented brand new buses each by the state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode last Thursday, at the grand finale of the 2015 Community Day Celebration, held at the Police College, Ikeja, while 11 others got consolation prizes, in form of grants and aids, which ranges from One million naira to N450, 000 each.

Earlier in the week, the Senior Special Assistant on Community Affairs and State Chairman Community Development Advisory Council (CDAC), Alhaji Tajudeen Adeniyi Quadri led officials of the ministry to Missionaries of Charity, Sisters of Mother Teresa, Ketu, Alapere, and Lagos State Government Children Centre, Idi-Araba, as part of the activities to commemorate the community day.

Gift items were distributed to the charity homes to make the children happy, where Adeniyi charged everyone to make sharing and giving their watchword.

At the grand-finale, Ambode said his administration is committed to community development, a reason why it is focused on strengthening its communities by initiating a bottom to top approach to governance.

“We have made the communities an integral part of our decision-making process. It is our communities that must decide what they want from the government and bring it forward…49 communities that were in total darkness have been supplied with transformers and are now fully lit; 63 communities in Ibeju-Lekki, starting from Eleko to Ode-Omi, who have not been supplied with electricity in the last five years would be connected by December 2015,” he said.

While noting that everybody has a role to play in the achievement of the future, he appealed that all must continue to contribute in various ways to the community, adding that the communities exist to support its members. “The community is our connection, identity and can only develop with our cooperation.
