Urges hard work to reclaim country

First republic Minister of Aviation, Chief Mbazulike Amechi has cautioned Nigerian youths to work hard and recover the country to avoid perpetual enslavement by old generation leaders.

Addressing a youth group under the aegis of Southern and Middle Belt Youth Coalition, who paid him consultative visit in his country home, Ukpor in Anambra State, yesterday, Amechi pointed out that what is paramount to Nigerians at the moment is an unselfish leadership.

He advised that youths should set aside differences and de-emphasise party politics by looking at competence and capacity of individuals.

He further counselled that youths should take back their country; otherwise the old generation of leaders will keep them in slavery. He stressed that they must come to a level where they are ready to die to achieve the dream country they want.

The elder statesman recalled how he, together with his colleagues, fought the colonial masters to a standstill based on justice and equity for all Nigerians.

Earlier, leader of the group, Prince Okenwa Okpala, expressed concern that the country is currently in a bad shape and urgently needs leadership with a sense of direction.

He accused the two major political parties in the country, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), of disregarding the rule of equity and fairness in selecting their presidential flag bearers against all expectations.

Okpala, however, observed that the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, is enjoying an unprecedented support from all Nigerians, especially the youths, because of the belief that he has the capacity to turn things around in the country.

He said the visit was to seek advice from the foremost nationalist on how the youths can rightfully take over governance of the country.

He assured that their meeting would afford them the opportunity to learn, from the elder statesman, how fairness and equity can be achieved in the governance structure of Nigeria.
