Amid controversy, Eti-Osa LG renames six major streets in Lagos

Amid the ongoing controversy over the renaming of roads and landmarks in Lagos State, the Eti-Osa Local Government Area has announced the renaming of six streets as part of its street-naming and revalidation initiative.

The announcement comes shortly after a similar move by the Bariga Local Council Development Area sparked public backlash, following former council chairman Kolade Alabi’s decision to rename several locations including the popular “Charly Boy Bus Stop”, which was controversially changed to “Olamide Baddo Bus Stop” along the Oworonshoki Expressway.

The development drew criticism from prominent figures, including human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN, who described the action as “unconstitutional”.

In a public notice issued on Friday and signed by the Council Manager, Mrs. Oluwakemi Oshun, the Eti-Osa Council announced that the new street names take immediate effect.

The council also advised Residents, businesses, and the general public to update their records to reflect the changes.

According to the council, the initiative aims to promote the cultural and historical significance of local street names while enhancing navigation, urban planning, and identity management.

The Guardian reports that Tony Amadasun Road in Igbo Efon has been renamed Chief Femi Pedro Road, while Dr. Udo Wogu Drive in Chevy View is now Chief Adebola Dosunmu Drive. Augusta Orji Street, located along Aro Ologolo Road, has been changed to Alhaji Adio Mayegun Street. In Osapa London, Chike Mba Close has been renamed Hon. Sikiru Ashorota Close.

Ugochukwu Orji Street in Igbo Efon is now Barr Wale Sanni Street, and Fubara Dublin Green Street, also in Igbo Efon, has been updated to Rafiu Olukolu Street.
