AmnestyTHE Presidential Amnesty Programme said it has concluded plans to open offices in the states of the Niger Delta, in order to have better and closer interface with its beneficiaries in the grassroots of the region.

A statement from the media and communications department of the Amnesty Office states that this plan was made known at the weekend by the Coordinator of the programme, Brigadier General Paul Boroh, while paying a courtesy visit on Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole.

He told the governor that the plan was part of measures to improve security and sustainable reintegration of the ex-Niger Delta agitators. The visit to Oshiomhole was part of Boroh’s working tour to states in the Niger Delta.

According to him, the state offices would serve as commands and control posts to enable the Presidential Amnesty Office in Abuja have a firm control of the beneficiaries at the grassroots.

“He explained that the initiative of setting up amnesty offices in the affected states was meant to sensitise key stakeholders in the Presidential Amnesty Programme, informing that the state offices comprise representatives from the state government, the military and para-military, representative of the Presidential Amnesty Office, representative of the ex-agitators in the state and other relevant key stakeholders,” the statement read.
