The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Edo State Branch, on Friday announced a major breakthrough for medical doctors employed by the Edo State Government following the approval of long-overdue promotions.

In a joint statement issued by the State Chairman, Dr. Eustace Oseghale, and the State Secretary, Dr. Iluobe Inegbenosun, the Association confirmed that the promotions, which had been stalled for over eight years, have now received approval from the Edo State Government.

According to Dr. Oseghale, this development marks a moment of relief and celebration for the dedicated healthcare professionals who have continued to deliver quality medical services to the people of Edo State despite years of career stagnation.

“This milestone is more than paperwork. It is a recognition of the sacrifice, resilience, and unwavering commitment of our members who have consistently held the health system together,” Dr. Oseghale stated.

He attributed the success to the relentless advocacy, strategic engagement, and persistence of the State Officers’ Committee, as well as the leadership of the State Association of Resident Doctors led by Dr. Peter Evboumwan.

“The unwavering commitment and relentless efforts of the State Officers’ Committee in pushing this crucial issue have finally yielded the positive attention and consideration it deserves,” he said.

Dr. Oseghale also expressed appreciation to the Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomhole, for their responsiveness and vision in prioritizing the welfare of medical doctors under state employment.

“We sincerely appreciate His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomhole for recognizing the critical role of doctors in our health sector and for taking this bold step to restore hope and dignity to ourmembers,”_he added.

Dr. Iluobe Inegbenosun, State Secretary, noted that the approval will significantly boost morale, improve retention, and reinforce NMA Edo’s commitment to the welfare of its members.

“This milestone not only enhances the morale of our members but also strengthens our collective resolve as the Nigeria Medical Association to prioritize the welfare of doctors. When doctors are valued, patient careimproves,” Dr. Inegbenosun said.
