Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Monday Kuryas, has visited Mkpologwu in Aguata Council and Omogho in Orumba North Council for an on-the-spot assessment of the spots where hoodlums attacked police patrol teams on Wednesday.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Haruna Mohammed, stated in Awka yesterday that the CP visited the areas to obtain first-hand information about the two incidents.

The statement added that Kuryas ordered a discreet investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incidents and prosecution of perpetrators of the dastardly act.

The Guardian gathered that gunmen, who drove in a saloon car and a black Mercedes Benz, 4Matic, attacked two different police patrol teams and killed four policemen.

A witness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the gunmen opened fire on the policemen who were on patrol at the two spots.

He said the hoodlums killed two policemen and also set their patrol vans on fire at Mkpologwu, while all the policemen at Omogho were killed.

But a police statement, which confirmed the attack, was silent on the casualties.

“The gunmen, who drove in both a saloon car and a black Mercedes Benz 4Matic SUV, opened fire on the policemen deployed to patrol the two locations.

“The hoodlums would soon be arrested,” the police stated.
