The Anambra State government and the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) have agreed that the planned temporary shutdown of the 21 local councils in the state be shelved.

The Anambra State government and the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) have agreed that the planned temporary shutdown of the 21 local councils in the state be shelved.

A source told The Guardian that going ahead with the shutdown might amount to policy summersault, as the state government had religiously marked the end to the Mondays’ sit-at-home on April 4, this year.

Also, in a statement, the NULGE State President, Mr. Chikwelu Adigwe, said: “We just finished a meeting with the newly-confirmed Commissioner for Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs and other government officials.

“They appealed that we should give them a chance towards arresting the menace of destroying local council property.”

The NULGE’s president hinted that the government demanded more time to assess the scenario. He hinted that the union’s State Executive Committee (SEC) would meet today on the next line of action.
