Anambra police arrest man for killing three-year-old boy

Hand over 35 rescued teenagers involved in the baby factory to NAPTIP

Operatives of Anambra State Police Command, yesterday, arrested a 34-year-old man, Mr. Onwele Anayo for the murder of three-year-old Divine Eze, residing in Hillview Estate, Nkwelle-Ezunaka in Oyi Local Council of the state.

  
Spokesperson for the Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement, yesterday, said the suspect visited the father of the victim on Wednesday, June 15 and spent the night in the victim’s house.
 
“An argument ensued between the father of the girl and the suspect in the early hours of yesterday. The suspect took the child as he was sleeping and killed him, by hitting him on the floor severally.
 
“Anayo picked a knife from the room and pursue the father around the house, threatening to kill him.
 
“Police have visited the scene and recovered the body of the child and the investigation is ongoing. Further development will be communicated,” he added.

MEANWHILE, the state police Command has handed over 35 rescued teenagers used as sex slaves to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
 
Ikenga said the girls aged between 14 and 17 years, were forced to engage in prostitution and have babies.
  
He stated that three suspects were arrested, adding that four of the girls are pregnant.

 
He said the Command working on information, invaded a hotel named Gally Gally in Nkpor on June 13, where the girls were used as sex slaves, for prostitution and baby factories.
  
Ikenga said the police arrested 35-year-old Ifeoma Uzo; 28-year-old Chidiebere Alaka, and Nweke Chidiebere, three pump action guns, seven cartridges and a sum of N877,500 were recovered during the operation. 

He said: “The suspects arrested are being interrogated with a view to eliciting information on their involvement and unmasking other gang members.
 

 
“We have handed over the victims to NAPTIP for the welfare and rehabilitation of the children.
 
“We are still getting more information from the suspects, but the owner of the place is at large. We don’t know for long this has been going on. All suspects will be charged to court at the end of investigations.”
 
Ikenga advised parents and guardians to have a good relationship with their children and wards to help them monitor “unforeseen issues and bad company.”
