Chairman of the service, Dr. David Nzekwu, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), yesterday, in Awka, the state capital.
Nzekwu expressed the hope that the target for the year was achievable and that Anambra had the capacity to generate over N120 billion yearly internally if the right environment was created.
He said before Governor Willie Obiano’s administration, Anambra was generating N8.7 billion yearly, but the recent statistics published by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), showed that the state had the capacity to generate over N28 billion as revenue yearly.
Nzekwu told NAN that what was needed for increased internal revenue generation was for the public to see tax payment as a civic duty.
He said on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, eight firms operating in the state were sealed for tax evasion, adding that more companies will be sealed within the period for the same reason.
Nzekwu, who also responded to questions on why the organisation was still contracting out revenue windows, less than two months to the expiration of Obiano’s administration, explained that there was nothing wrong with that.
“Our responsibility is to administer the Anambra State Revenue Administration Law and that is of essence to us, because through that we can generate more revenue.
“Today, we even concluded the bidding process of some leaking revenue windows that we advertised for bidding and the entire process was done transparently,” he said.
He added that the organisation was more concerned about ensuring that the state generates more revenue into its coffers to enhance growth and greater development.
